Paul’s third and final journey, which will end in Rome, is about to begin. Until now, Luke has portrayed Paul as an active, tireless missionary, a fighter, a winner, and a miracle worker. The remaining eight chapters (21-28) will reveal another side of the missionary, perhaps the most genuine and compelling: the passive Paul, a prisoner of the Spirit. Luke thus begins to show how the Apostle enters into the mystery of the Lord’s death and resurrection through his own suffering and death, the ultimate expression of the Spirit and the Word’s power in the faithful imitator of Christ.
