This is why we always thank God, for when we shared our message, you accepted it—not as human words but as God’s own word. That is what it truly is, and accordingly, it is at work in you who believe.
Commentaries
2:1 - 2:20
Paul’s Ministry in Thessalonica.
Paul’s words are somewhat defensive and apologetic about his ministry, and they clearly show his affection. He repeats phrases like “you know, you are aware, you are witnesses,” in a kind of friendly understanding: even though you already know… I am telling you. The whole passage is a kind of apostolic autobiography, written by Paul during a time of some anxiety or concern about the community. Although he is physically apart from the Thessalonians, he keeps them in his heart, and this mutual connection will be shown as his glory and crown on the day of the Lord’s return.
