Universal Praise
Alleluia! Praise the Lord from the heavens; praise him in the heavenly heights.2
Praise him, all his angels; praise him, all his heavenly hosts.
11
Kings of the earth; and nations, princes and all rulers of the world;
12
young men and maidens; old and young, together—
13
let them praise the name of the Lord;for his name alone is exalted; his majesty is above earth and heaven.
14
He has given his people glory; he has given praise to his faithful, to Israel, the people close to him. Alleluia.

The entire creation resounds with God’s praise; the music begins in heaven and, from there, flows down to earth and spreads throughout the world. But at the heart of it all are the people of God. They are the start of a new creation, and through them, the whole world is to be renewed for God’s greater glory. All of creation—heavens, earth, and abyss—must bow and praise the ‘Name above any other name’ (Phil 2:9-10). To pray with this psalm, we need an ecumenical heart where everything and everyone has room. Praise to God from both heaven and earth will be a polyphonic choir.
