Luke 10:13-16

Chapter 10

13
Alas for you, Chorazin! Alas for you, Bethsaida! So many miracles have been performed in you! If the same miracles had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have already repented, sitting in ashes and wearing sackcloth.
14

Sure enough, it will be better for Tyre and Sidon on the Day of Judgment than for you.

15

And what about you, city of Capernaum? Will you be raised to heaven? No, you’ll be thrown down to the grave.

16

Whoever listens to you listens to me, and whoever rejects you rejects me, and he who rejects me rejects the one who sent me.

Commentaries

10:13 - 10:16

Rebuke of the Towns of Galilee.

Still related to the theme of sending and especially to the possibility of rejection, Luke attributes this prophetic lament, which also sounds like a threat, to Jesus. Jesus recognizes that after passing through these cities and places, despite many expressions of joy at his words and signs, apparently, nothing remains. Essentially, what Jesus laments is the unbelief of these cities and their failure to put his teachings into practice.
