Tobit’s only hope is for death, and this thought leads him to consider his son and his future. As a devoted father, Tobit advises his son to live an exemplary life. We can say he hands down a kind of spiritual will that focuses on the duties a good Israelite must fulfill: the responsibilities of a good son (3s); the practice of honesty (5-7a); the practice of giving alms (7b-11); other relationships with neighbors (1-17); matters concerning marriage (12f); and the search for wisdom (18f). The meeting between father and son ends with Tobit revealing the money he has stored in another distant city, which Tobias will need to travel to retrieve.
