The Levite’s wickedness becomes even more evident as he deliberately lies and manipulates the circumstances surrounding his concubine’s death for his own benefit, right in front of the children of Israel gathered at Mizpah. The “outrage” suffered by the Levite calls for the unity of all Israel. Because of this, even God sides with the Levite against the wicked people of Gibeah. It is God who defeats Benjamin (35).
