The context of these reflections remains debated. It seems that Paul directs his strong criticism not at the Law of Moses itself, but at the preaching of those false apostles who had not yet broken away from the mindset of the ‘old law’ — in reality, they manipulated Moses—and from the prestige and ‘glory’ they linked to their missionary efforts. In other words, they misunderstood the ‘newness of the Gospel,’ and therefore they compromised the Word, distorted it, and silenced its message.
