The court or courtyard is a crucial part of the Sanctuary, serving as a space for public ceremonies. It is separated from other areas by a barrier of large curtains, marking the Sanctuary as a sacred space, distinct from all others. Note that in Ezekiel’s vision of rebuilding the temple in Jerusalem, the division between “the sacred and the profane” is represented by a large wall (cf. Ezk 42:20).
