The Gershonite clans camped behind the Holy Tent on the west side.

Their number, counting the males one month and older, came to 7,500.

From Gershon are descended the Libnite and the Shimeite clans; these are the Gershonite clans.

Merari’s sons by their clans: Mahli and Mushi. These are Levi’s clans, grouped according to their ancestral families.

Kohath’s sons by their clans: Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel;

These are the names of Gershon’s sons by their clans: Libni and Shimei;

These are the names of the sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.

Moses took this census as the Lord had ordered.

 “You are to take a census of the sons of Levi by families and clans; all the males of the age of one month and over must be counted.”
