So Moses and Eleazar, the priest, enlisted the people in the plains of Moab, near the Jordan opposite Jericho, as the Lord had commanded Moses.

 “Take a census of all the community of Israel, by families: all those of twenty years and older, able to give military service.”

New Census The Lord spoke to Moses and Eleazar, son of Aaron the priest. He said:

After the plague, it happened that…

for they have been your enemies, deceiving you regarding Peor and regarding Cozbi, their kinswoman, daughter of a Midianite leader, who was slain on the day of the plague because of Peor.”

 “Attack the Midianites and crush them,

The Lord said to Moses:

And the name of the Midianite woman who was slain was Cozbi, daughter of Zur, a tribal chief of a Midianite family.

The Israelite slain with the Midianite woman was Zimri, son of Salu, a leader of a Simeonite family.
