Ezk 47:12

Chapter 47

12

Along both banks of the river, there will be all kinds of fruit trees with leaves that never wither and fruit that never fails; each month they will produce a fresh crop because the water comes from the temple. The fruit will be tasty to eat, and the leaves will be used for healing.

Commentaries

40:1 - 48:35

New Temple and New Land.

The new temple is designed to avoid past mistakes: it will be reinforced. It will have new boundaries to separate the holiness of the people and their land (42:20). Everything will be reorganized from the sanctuary (43:12). God is returning to dwell among His people. This time, it will be forever (43:7).

47:1 - 48:35

Spring of the Temple.

From the temple flows the living water that transforms the earth into a new paradise (cf. Jl 3:18; Zec 14:8). This vision concludes the entire Bible after the wedding of the Lamb in the book of Revelation (Rev 22:1-2). This image is the final summary of the reclaimed territory and the rebuilt city and temple (48:30-35). The city gains a symbolic name full of hope for the Israelites in exile: “God is here.”
