Different Categories.

In his concern for harmony and good order in the community, the author now focuses on two types of positions of responsibility: the bishop and the deacons. Both titles, which originated in the Greek civil and religious worlds, were also adopted by Christians to designate some of their specific leaders. Originally, the first meant “supervisor” and the second “servant,” that is, a leader and assistants. Compared to what we know about Paul from other documents, this letter shows a more advanced level of internal organization within the Church.
