The wall’s inauguration is a ceremony that would have delighted the Chronicler. A representation of authorities, priests, and Levites ascends to the top of the wall at a western point of the city. From there, they proceed in a procession, with one group moving south and the other moving north. Both groups turn eastward and then turn again to meet at a point in the east, where they descend to enter the Temple. The rest of the people accompany the procession along the lower part of the wall or wait at the entrance to the Temple.
