The prayer draws inspiration from Israel’s history and specifically from passages within various traditions. The theme of the land is central. After creation, at the beginning of history, God makes a promise to Abraham; thus, this promise serves as the initial force that sets everything in motion, highlighting God’s initiative and commitment. In a second moment, the land must be handed over: the exodus from Egypt and the journey through the desert converge towards this event, in which the promise is fulfilled. The third moment is the present: the Jews inhabit the promised land that has already been given over, but as vassals; if the promise fails, its value is compromised.
