This passage mentions two pillars erected before the sanctuary (15-22). Their function was symbolic, but we do not know exactly what they symbolize—whether they represent the pillars of fire and cloud in the desert, the presence of God and the king, or the cosmic pillars of heaven and earth. Additionally, we are unaware of the meanings of their names. The translation provided respects their origins without adding unnecessary interpretation: “Firm” and “Strong.” The reservoir (23-26) is called “The Sea” in Hebrew, which may imply a cosmic significance, symbolizing both the rebellious and tamed ocean. The descriptions of the basins (27-39) are technical and complex, filled with many details that remain unclear. Their sizes are enormous; even with wheels, they would be difficult to move.
