Deborah and Barak.

Deborah is undoubtedly the most prudent, wise, and just person in the entire narrative. The Book of Judges depicts a society dominated by men who “do” the things of men: wars, deals, murders, business… and then suddenly introduces us to Deborah, the mother of Israel. Her vision and wisdom empower the desperate children of Israel to transform their society. Deborah’s faith, her clever planning, and her open spirit in discovering the God of life enable her to defeat the Canaanite forces in the north of the country (23ff). In Deborah, women find a role model, and men receive a potent reminder not to despise the prophecies and teachings of women.
