The final negotiation phase between Pharaoh and Moses occurs after Moses departs from the palace, having been warned not to return at the risk of his life. Initially, the traditions surrounding the departure from Egypt could only convey the account of the death of all the firstborns. Later, other ancient traditions were added, emphasizing the resistance the Egyptians mounted, significantly magnifying the powerful prodigies performed by God for the people. The Lord’s decision to bring death to all Egyptian firstborns is announced. However, it is not immediately executed because the biblical author considers it essential to record the liturgical instructions for celebrating the feast of liberation: the Passover.
